Four decades in music, from Argentina to Ireland’s east coast

Mario Benitez is a composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Drogheda, Co. Louth, Ireland. His work brings together cinematic writing, ambient textures and a lifelong relationship with melody, memory and place.

With over four decades in music, Mario trained as a certified teacher of Music, Theory and Ear Training at the Instituto Musical Marplatense, Argentina, where his diploma was signed by maestro Ariel Ramírez. He also studied harmony under maestro Adolfo Ábalos, a foundational figure in Argentine folk music. His musical language grew through folk, jazz and contemporary music, later expanding into production, sound engineering and cinematic composition.

A player of piano, bass, guitar, drums and synthesizers — as well as South American folk instruments such as charango, bombo legüero and cajón, and a vocalist — Mario founded the Escuela Superior de Música Popularin Mar del Plata, Argentina, and has taught music at different levels across Argentina, Brazil, Europe and the United States.

He was also the creator and director of the Orquesta Juvenil de Teclados, “La Orquesta Marplatense de Música”, whose work was declared of interest by the Honorable Deliberative Council of General Pueyrredón in 1994, recognising the cultural value of the project and its contribution to the musical life of Mar del Plata.

His path also took him across stages in Brazil, Europe and the United States, including performances with Forza Estranha and appearances connected to major cultural events in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, whose line-ups featured artists such as Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil and Os Paralamas do Sucesso.

For years he has also explored the emotional relationship between heartbeat, frequency and composition through SonoHeart Music, an artistic project built around cardiac rhythms and deeply personal musical responses.

In 2026, Mario composed Drogheda Abú Forever, a civic anthem for the people of Drogheda, and a dedicated anthem for Drogheda United FC. The work was publicly presented at the invitation of the President of the Drogheda Chamber of Commerce — an artistic homecoming, and a circle quietly closing by the sea.

Previously releasing music under the name Albert Bentz, Mario now creates and presents his work under his real name: Mario Benitez Music.

Today, from his studio overlooking the Irish Sea, he channels all of it into the work that moves him most: cinematic, ambient and emotional pieces that feel less like songs and more like small films in sound.
